Thank you for being part of the Shelburne Golf & Country Club Member experience this season!
We enjoyed a wonderful summer from May through to the end of September with many days of great play, competition and fun. October proved to be wet and not the best as was April, but despite the inclement weather, many of our hearty members played into November. Thank you to Brooks who had the golf course in good shape from opening day to closing. As you read this letter, Brooks and the Grounds Crew have put the Course to rest for the Winter months.
Thank you to Megan and the Clubhouse team who ran the clubhouse with efficiency and kept the member events up to our usual standard. Thank you also to our Head Chef, Robin Whaley and the culinary team for producing great food and ensuring our members and guests were well-fed and our tournaments, wedding and off-site events all ran very well.
Along with the good golf course conditions, the clubhouse had a significant upgrade with the new glassed-in deck which was received very well by the membership and guests; A wonderful spot to relax with a beverage or food after an enjoyable game on the links. We continually strive to improve our course and clubhouse and hope you and your guests enjoy these changes and additions.
As we move forward into 2019, there will be a slight increase in membership fees due to the rising costs of operations including such expenses as increased minimum wage and hydro rates adding to the expense bill. However, along with the increase there are a few perks included that will keep increases to a minimum for those who had club storage or had a seasonal power cart. Club storage is now included in all full seven day memberships and all seasonal power cart prices have been reduced. Another addition will be a warm up bucket of balls every time you play. All new services are complimentary and have no cash value if you don’t wish to use them. Also, the Club will honour the Club Champions and Championship participants with a reception at the conclusion of Championship weekend.
We have continued to improve the Club this fall with new trees planted, all fairways and tees were verticut (thatch removal) and new drainage was completed for number eighteen fairway.
One of our prominent members, Michael Smithson has been a driving force for the Men’s section over the past number of years, and as he and Jo are moving next year I want to thank him for his efforts and wish he and Jo all the best. Thanks Michael. And thank you to all of our team captains for making the member events run so well.
We all hope you enjoyed your season and hope to see you return in April.
Best wishes and health while you’re away.
Sam, Mary, Brooks and Megan
